In 1984
Barbara Marx Hubbard succeeded in having her name placed in nomination
as one of the Democratic Party's vice-presidential candidates (the
same year as did Geraldine Ferraro) based on the platform of placing
a Peace Room in the office of the vice president in the White House.
It was obviously a favorable idea, but timing and circumstances
would not permit its coming to fruition in the political arena.
Now, with the advent of the Internet and the surge of evolutionary
transformation in all of our social systems, we are confident that
the time has come for this new social function to come fully into
form.
Simply stated, the purpose
of the Peace Room is to identify, map, connect, and communicate
innovations, successes, breakthroughs, and models that work, and
to link pioneers, innovators, organizations, and projects so as
to foster cooperation and synergy among the diverse sectors of human
society. The Synergy Center as presented here in EVOLVE is a beginning
step towards fulfilling this vision.
By offering a comprehensive
organizing framework and social processes that facilitate the networking
of common goals, matching needs and resources, the Peace Room serves
a vital role in fulfilling our greatest potential, from the individual
to the entire planet.
Peace in this context
does not just mean conflict resolution. It means peace through cocreation,
through the full expression of human creativity in cooperation with
nature, with one another, and with the deeper design of evolution.
In the context of Conscious
Evolution, the Peace Room (which is envisioned to become as sophisticated
as a war room) serves to bring into coherence and coordinated application
the already present and newly arising vital capacities of social,
scientific, technological, and spiritual know-how from a whole-system,
evolutionary perspective.
Ultimately, we envision
the United Nations creating the first global Peace Room within this
decade. This global Peace Room would be connected to comparable
sites in nations and communities throughout the world, collaboratively
working to identify the emerging evolutionary agenda to guide the
policies and actions of the social body locally and globally on
a positive evolutionary track.
It is significant to
note that U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), has submitted legislation for the
creation of a Department of Peace in the U.S. government. This is
clearly a vision leading towards the same goal.
Organizing
Framework of the Peace Room
The basic organizing
framework for the Peace Room is the Wheel of Cocreation. Based upon
the original concept of a Peace-Building Wheel by Avon Mattison
of Pathways to Peace, the Wheel of Cocreation represents the entire
body of human society as a living whole system made up of interrelated
and interdependent parts. Seeing our social body in this way, as
a dynamic and evolving whole system, we begin to catch a glimpse
of the matrix of the new memetic code now arising in our emerging
planetary cultureóthe memetic code of a living unified organism
comprised of a myriad of interconnected systems, a diversity of
values and cultures, and countless creative works of individuals
and organizations everywhere.
The
basic elements of the Wheel of Cocreation are the Sectors of Society.
These represent the basic
areas of function, need, and endeavor in human society at a generalized
and highly simplified level. Within each sector is a deeply rich
and complex set of functions, roles, structures, etc. that comprise
every element of the body of society at local, regional and global
levels. The Wheel of Cocreation uses a ì12-around-1î model showing
the ìpartsî of society arrayed around the central ìWhole System
Design,î the pattern of the whole as it emerges from the synergy
of all the parts.
