Eight amazing
Western and non-Western woman held a three-day discussion in January of
2002 that led to the creation of PEACE X PEACE.
About the original circle.
The mission of
PEACE X PEACE is to build sustainable peace by supporting women locally
and globally, circle by circle, connection by connection.
To support this
goal PEACE X PEACE has three independent but mutually supportive programs
- 1) a Global Network through the Internet of women-based groups, 2) a
Global Documentary of women working around the world on the frontlines
against violent conflict and for cultural harmony, and 3) an international
Education Outreach program with an e-Newsletter, website of experts’
Peace Papers, and translated film shorts.
PEACE
X PEACE - Global Network
PEACE X PEACE’s
Global Network connects women's groups in the US into one-one-one relationships
with women's groups outside the US through the Internet, so that they
can come to know each other directly and personally. For instance, a group
of women journalists in New York could connect with a group of women journalists
in Afghanistan; a book club in Minnesota could connect to a women's rights
group in Argentina, or a group of nurses from California could connect
to a group of nurses in Nairobi. You could say that the Global Network
is a "web of peace" supported by PXP's technical infrastructure.
These connections, once multiplied into huge numbers, have the potential
to be a determining force in future decisions towards peace or towards
conflict.
The idea of the
Global Network is simple—connect people around the world, give them
the opportunity to share their lives and stories, increase the information
and experience level of Global Network members and transform strangers
into friends. It is in the shift from "other" to "sister"
when the connection is made that is the first step in creating a culture
of peace.

PEACE
X PEACE – Documentary
Women
on the Frontlines is a feature-length documentary that profiles
the work of women peace-builders in five countries – Afghanistan,
Burundi, Bosnia, Argentina, and the United States. The struggles may differ,
but the questions are universal: Why are women uniquely suited to achieve
peace? How are women organizing to have their voices heard? What makes
these women embrace peace, not violence, in the face of
shattering personal crises? By weaving together intimate verite
portraits, with footage of the events that led to their pursuit
of peace, this film follows these extraordinary women as they challenge
the traditional modes of dealing with conflicts.
