FCE’s Founder, Dr. Barbara Marx Hubbard
Barbara Marx Hubbard has been a pioneer in positive options for
the future of humanity for forty years. A public speaker, author,
and social innovator, she is president and executive director of
the Foundation for Conscious Evolution.
She has been instrumental in the founding of many future-oriented
organizations, including the World Future Society, New Dimensions
Radio, Global Family, Women of Vision In Action, The Foundation
for the Future, and the Association for Global New Thought.
A graduate of Bryn Mawr College, with a B.A. cum laude in Political
Science, she studied at the Sorbonne and L’Ecole des Sciences
Politiques in Paris. She was awarded the first Doctor of Conscious
Evolution degree from Emerson Theological Institute.
In the 1960’s she published one of the first newsletters on
evolutionary transformation called The Center Letter, with the support
of Dr. Abraham H. Maslow, founder of Humanistic Psychology. She
worked closely with Dr. Jonas Salk and was one of the original contributors
to the Salk Institute. In the 70’s she co-founded the Committee
for the Future in Washington, D.C. which developed the New Worlds
Educational and Training Center, based on her work. She co-produced
twenty-five SYNCON (Synergistic Convergence) conferences to bring
together people from every field and function to seek common goals
and match needs and resources in the light of the growing potentials
of humanity. She wrote and presented the Theater for the Future,
a multi-media story of creation culminating in “Previews of
Coming Attractions”—what it might be like if everything
worked.
In 1984 her name was placed in nomination for the vice-presidency
of the United States on the Democratic ticket. She proposed a Peace
Room in the White House and throughout the world, to scan for, map,
connect, and communicate what is working. She was one of the original
directors of the Center for Soviet American Dialogue and served
as a citizen diplomat during the late 80’s.
Her five books are The Hunger of Eve, The Evolutionary
Journey, Revelation: Our Crisis is a Birth, Conscious
Evolution: Awakening the Power of Our Social Potential, and
Emergence: The Shift from Ego to Essence, Ten Steps to the Universal
Human. She is the mother of five and the grandmother of six,
and resides in Santa Barbara, California.

for Conscious Evolution Vision and Mission
The initiatives of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution offer
a context and container for connecting and empowering the vast global
movement arising for positive change, making the efforts of this
movement visible to engender greater awareness, coherence and synergy.
Small Islands
of coherence in a sea of social chaos can jump the system
as a whole to a higher degree of harmony and order.
The Foundation
for Conscious Evolution is helping to build a new path—a “golden
bridge”—to the next stage of human evolution. By connecting
and communicating what’s working, positive and innovative,
we will move beyond our current confusion and see that the purpose
of our crisis is to activate our newly emerging capacities, and
that the meaning of our unprecedented power is to fulfill the deepest
aspirations of the human heart—to restore the Earth, to free
ourselves from illness, hunger, and war, and cocreate a future equal
to our vast potential.
Our
Vision
The ultimate goal of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution is the
awakening of the spiritual, social, and scientific potential of
humanity,
in harmony with nature for the highest good of all life.
Our Mission
• To educate people in the worldview of Conscious
Evolution and how to
apply it in their lives, personally and socially.
• To provide a vital new social system through which
the vast movement
for positive change can align, connect and further cooperate toward
the common goal of a compassionate, sustainable future
that recognizes and supports the inter-connectedness of all life.
The creation
of EVOLVE with the Synergy Center, Living School and its premier
educational program Gateway to Conscious Evolution, Communities
and Evolving Media represent the first steps toward the fulfillment
of our mission.
Although catalyzed by the Foundation, our intention is that EVOLVE
be cocreated and used by individuals and organizations who believe
in the power of cooperation and synergy. None of us can do this
great work alone.

History
and Accomplishments to Date
The Foundation for Conscious Evolution
(FCE) has for its first ten years served the research, writing,
and speaking opportunities of its co-founder, Barbara Marx Hubbard,
supported by major financial gifts from Laurance S. Rockefeller,
Louis Marx, and other private donors, as well as the general public.
1992
– 1999
Barbara Marx Hubbard & Sidney Lanier found the FCE to help create
public awareness of the importance of the new field of Conscious
Evolution, conduct research in the field, and develop the Peace
Room concept further.

Barbara gave 80 keynote
speeches, 75 print
& media interviews
• Wrote 3 books,
making a total of 5 books to date.
• Co-founded several organizations
including Women of Vision in Action, Foundation for the Future,
and Association for Global New Thought.
Since relocating to Santa Barbara, California in June of 1999, FCE
has undertaken major growth in the breadth and depth of its activities
geared towards more effectively grounding, communicating, and applying
the principles and practices of cocreative, self and social conscious
evolution.
From 1999 to-date
Major Accomplishments in fulfillment of our vision and mission
include:
•
Initiated The first version of the Center
for Conscious Evolution website as a global outreach
vehicle and cocreative resource for the emerging community of
pioneering souls. Now called EVOLVE.
• Created the Gateway to
Conscious Evolution on-line course; field-tested
with over 800 people. Gateway groups now forming throughout the
world. Gateway offers a Developmental Path for
Self and Social Conscious Evolution. Gateway is now available
online in the Living School.
• Initiated the on-line Peace
Room framework and process, engaging Evolutionary
Colleagues and identifying Innovations.
• Created and aired weekly
Internet-radio program, Live from the Peace Room,
5 PM PST on Wednesdays, in partnership with Wisdom Radio. 55 live
broadcasts to date; also being archived and used in Gateway program.
• Began a community development
experiment in Santa Barbara with 200 volunteer
participants. The community is exploring the question “What
would happen if this community were to realize its potential for
Conscious Evolution?” Entering into the third year the community
is growing & self-sustaining. It is initiating many actions
for positive change and is in the process of developing a
local Peace Room. Other
communities in the U.S. and Canada are also initiating similar
explorations based upon our work.
•
Commenced discussions with influential producers for a television
special on the theme of Conscious Evolution.
• Began development of Graduate
and Masters programs in Conscious Evolution and
Evolutionary Leadership, in partnership with Emerson Institute.
• Published Emergence:
The Shift from Ego to Essence, Hampton Roads
Publishing.
• Inaugurated Conscious Evolution
Fellowship program with first adult and student
fellows.
• Completed first Strategic Plan and began fund raising
to support our long-term initiatives. In the first two years we
have raised almost 1 million dollars in support of our Vision
and Plan.
• Developed Gateway marketing
partnership agreements with 5 national organizations.
• Began development of a Gateway
Guides Program to provide the means for grass
roots marketing and support for the Gateway Course worldwide.
30 guides are trained in the initial Program.
• Began the process of creating and publishing The
Journal of Conscious Evolution. BMH has completed
the lead “scholarly article," Conscious Evolution:
The Next Stage of Human Development.
• Launched EVOLVE,
a Global Community Center for Conscious Evolution.

BARBARA MARX HUBBARD, President
Noted author, futurist, speaker and social architect. She is the
co-founder of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution and a founding
board member of the World Future Society. She graduated from Bryn
Mawr College cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science and studied
at L’Ecole des Sciences Politique and the Sorbonne. She was
awarded the first Doctor of Conscious Evolution degree from Emerson
Theological Institute.
BILL UREDA, Secretary/Treasurer
Bill Ureda is a business entrepreneur specializing in the exploration
and implementation of new forms of business organization. Originally
trained as a CPA, he has worked as CFO for Louis Allen Associates,
Werner Erhard & Associates,and Naturemade Vitamins as well as
creating two successful businesses, Creative Ventures, Inc. (a co-op
retail gift chain) and Earth Tel (a company dedicated to fully funding
community services). A graduate of UCLA, he lives in Santa Barbara
with his wife, Madeleine.
BARBARA FIELDS BERNSTEIN, Director
Currently serves as Executive Director of the Association for Global
New Thought and Co-Director of Synthesis Dialogues with His Holiness,
the Dalai Lama. She was the Program Director for the 1993 Parliament
of the World’s Religions and Projects Director for Gandhi-King:
A Season for Non-violence.
WILLIAM GRAY, Director
Bill Gray, an entrepreneur residing in Boulder, Colorado, has spent his
entire business life in investment real estate, during which time he has
bought, managed, and sold over a half billion dollars in shopping centers,
office buildings, and apartments across the U.S. He was an owner of Huskin
& Co., a firm that was a pioneer in real estate syndication. He was
also a partner in Capital Asset Management, which owned and managed over
20,000 apartments, plus a number of shopping centers and office buildings.
He is currently an owner of Travent International, the second largest
bike touring company in the world; with luxury tours throughout Europe
and the eastern United States. Mr. Gray attended the university of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill.
SANDRA
HAY, Director
Producer & Director Sandra Hay arrived in the world of film making
from a completely different creative arena, having forged a successful
career for herself as an internationally renowned dancer and choreographer.
In 1983 Sandra made the transition to film and video when she partnered
with Alan Kozlowski, ultimately forming Pacific Ocean Post (P.O.P), the
leading post-production facility in Los Angeles, and Mountain Drive, headed
by Sandra. She currently has four television series in various stages
of production, including a recently completed Disney/ABC pilot, and has
also completed filming the concert tour of Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown,
Bruce Hornsby, and Shawn Colvin.
ANNE MILGRIM, Director
Chair of Backstage at the Bowl fundraiser in Santa Barbara and Board
Member of the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation for 3 years. Has served
as Vice-Chair of Earth Communications Office (ECO) for 10 years.
English degree from UCSB. Co-producer of music series at the Lobero
Theatre.
JOHN ZWERVER, Director
Currently the Co-Director of Global Family and a partner in People
Assets International. He served as Director of Planning and Development
for Children’s Aid Society of Metropolitan Toronto and Executive
Director of the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services.
